New Urban Environment

About New Hanza

Right next to Riga’s historical centre and Skanste, a modern Riga neighbourhood, the new urban district of New Hanza is emerging. The territory boundaries of New Hanza are marked by Pulkveža Brieža, Hanzas, Skanstes, and Sporta Streets. This used to be one of Riga’s most important and fast-growing transport, logistics and business hub. The history of the place inspires for excellence, therefore we are designing New Hanza to make everyone feel welcome and like they belong – whether at home, relaxing, or working.

We believe that this place will keep attracting strong personalities and prompt implementation of daring ideas, therefore we decided to name the streets of New Hanza after famous Rigans, who have been honoured for their contributions to various fields and for representing Latvia around the world. Their stories resonate with the New Hanza idea of a dynamic, international environment, where business meets art, where different languages create a new melody, and where the future is born every minute.

On nearly 25 hectares of land, a network of streets with underground utility lines has already been built, an old cargo railway station has been transformed into the Hanzas Perons, а multifunctional cultural venue, with the first of many New Hanza A-class office buildings emerging right alongside.

Culture and entertainment

New Hanza means life at the heart of events

In August 2019, a former Riga cargo railway station warehouse at the corner of Hanzas and Pulkveža Brieža streets was reinvented as the Hanzas Perons cultural venue. Combining the building’s more than 100-year history with a modern approach, it has become an efficient, functional space to organise and hold events.

Framed by glass, Hanzas Perons has become a stunning example of modern architecture, demonstrating a natural merging of a former industrial landmark with contemporary trends. Hanzas Perons has quickly become a significant cultural destination in Riga, making every event it hosts a joy both for local and foreign artists and visitors. Territory development is unimaginable without investments in land improvements, therefore there were private funds invested in creating new utility lines, including water supply, canalisation, heat and electricity supply systems, as well as construction of a unique rainwater collection tank.
In 2019, we opened Hanzas Perons – a multi-functional cultural venue that quickly became a popular culture and entertainment destination. There were three new streets built, and active construction works continue as the first New Hanza A-class offices are being built at 1 Mihaila Tāla Street, which are to be completed in spring 2023.
The following stage of construction includes building an office complex at 3 Mihaila Tāla Street with offices for rent and commercial premises for various daily services. Also it is planned to build a sports club with a 25-metre swimming pool and surface parking for more than 400 cars. The third stage of construction includes developing an office complex on Pulkveža Brieža Street, where there will be two buildings of 16 000 m2 constructed.
As the development of the New Hanza territory continues, in the upcoming years, there will be new residential buildings, an educational facility and the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art built. We believe that the living environment is defined not only by the buildings, but also by the space between them. Therefore, at New Hanza territory, there will be 1.5 hectares of land reserved for Hanza Park. This is going to be the green heart of New Hanza – a place to hide from hustle and bustle of the city and meet your friends.
